Product Description
CLS stands for Canadian Lumber Standard, which essentially just refers to the specific finished dimensions of this timber which the UK has adapted as an industry-wise standard for internal studwork for partition wall. CLS is always 38mm (1½") thick, with this 75mm nominal CLS finishing at 63mm (2½") wide.
Our slow grown softwood studwork timber is suitable for framing, shuttering, studwork, construction, joists, rafters and far more.
In the milling process, this material is planed down to a reasonably smooth finish on the faces, removing a few millimeters from both dimensions of the full sawn raw material. This process makes the timber 'regularised', meaning every piece in a pack is machined to the same dimensions to ensure consistency across all lengths. During this process, the 4 corners of timber are also rounded off, or 'eased', for safer handling with less concern for sharp edges splintering off.
This timber is strength graded to C16 specification for structural applications as per British Standard BS5268. This structrual grading allows fewer defects in terms of amount of splits, shakes, knots and warping are allowed (though some of these are all allowed up to a point within the grade).
As with any product with a solution applied, we would strongly recommend re-applying a treatment solution of your choice at regular intervals to ensure maximum lifespan. In the same vein, any cut ends should be re-treated to seal the exposed timber.
This timber is Kiln Dried (KD) meaning its moisture content should be be lowered to below 20%. This process:
- mechanically strengthens the timber;
- makes it far more lighter and more workable for cutting / sawing;
- helps to eliminate any chance of moisture induced fungal decay.
